Physicals
Getting a physical, whether it’s required for your job or educational purposes, gives you the opportunity to learn more about your health and find out if there are any areas that need improvement. Vital Care Urgent Care offers the following types of physicals for our patients:
Regardless of your age or health status, you should visit your primary care physician to have a physical performed each and every year. These visits offer the opportunity for you and your doctor to assess your overall well-being at a time when you are not experiencing any symptoms of illness. If any areas of your health that require some attention are discovered, you will be able to address them before they grow into real issues. Common examples include blood pressure, cholesterol, and BMI. If you are taking any medications, a physical will also provide your doctor with a chance to review those prescriptions as well, checking on dosage levels, potential side effects, and general impact. On top of our general physicals, we provide DOT and sports physicals for drivers in the transportation industry or athletes looking to play during the season.
For a thorough and convenient annual physical, visit one of our walk-in clinics today! We proudly welcome residents throughout Midland, Odessa, Big Spring, Abilene, Andrews, Kermit, TX, and the surrounding communities.
A sports physical, known in the medical field as a pre-participation physical examination (PPE), helps to determine whether or not a child (or adult) is physically able to participate in a sport safely. Any person that is starting a new physical activity should talk to a healthcare professional. Sports physicals offer the perfect opportunity to do so. A sports physical does not replace your regular annual check-up because sports physicals focus on healthy history that might have a direct impact on someone's ability to play a sport.
Firstly, during a sports physical, a nurse will come and check the patient's vitals, such as blood pressure and pulse. Weight and height are also accounted for. The second portion is the eye exam. An athlete needs to be able to see properly when engaging in a sport. Next, the healthcare professional checks the patient's medical history. We do this in case there are restrictions that need to be put into place due to current conditions. Lastly, there is a fitness check. In the sports physical, the fitness check portion is a thorough physical exam, including heart, lungs, and abdomen. We do this to make sure there aren’t any physical limitations, like uncontrolled asthma, recent surgeries, or a hernia that might affect the ability to play safely.
Whether you need a physical for a new job or your teenager needs a school physical, you can look forward to a quick and convenient experience at Vital Care Urgent Care. Call or visit our urgent care center.
